The name Mahabali joins two Sanskrit words: mahā (“great”) and bali (“offering/tribute”). In Malayalam, bali is also understood as sacrifice—a reminder of generosity and humility at the heart of Onam. We celebrate that spirit of sharing and equality here in Northern Ireland, across communities, faiths, and backgrounds.
Karma Kalakendram is a non-profit, non-religious arts organisation. We believe action shapes who we become, and we welcome people of all faiths and none. We champion equality and inclusion under UK law and use dance to bring communities together.
Onam’s stories—especially King Mahabali’s generosity—call us to humility, sharing, and belonging. Join us to try a step, learn a story, and share a meal—your ticket supports dance education for young people and migrants.
